Hospital DAS Solution

Challenge

After 23 years of serving the community, a large hospital needed a new facility to accommodate growth in the community. The new hospital is twice the size of the former facility and offers conveniences and amenities that illustrate the hospital’s commitment to the community. Hospital personnel contacted our project personnel after the facility was completed. They realized that the cellular reception was not reliable and wanted to seek out a solution. The new facility featured state of the art technology and reliable cellular reception was imperative. The hospital wanted reception for staff who rely on smart phones as well as visitors and guests who depend on cellular coverage to communicate.

Solution

This particular hospital is a member of a large system and had stringent standards for qualifying outside vendors. Project personnel and the technology partner were able to qualify based on national experience in implementing repeater solutions for hospitals and other medical facilities. Completing a survey of the facility, it was determined that the main factor effecting the facility’s cellular reception was the construction of the building.  A comprehensive Project Plan and a multi-carrier Distributed Antenna System was custom designed for the hospital.

Result

Using the latest DAS technology, cellular reception was captured outside of the facility and repeated inside the hospital to create the cellular signal that was needed. Utilizing the Project Plan and installing the multi-carrier DAS system enabled excellent signal throughout the hospital. After implementation, the entire facility was surveyed again to ensure the reception was adequate in all areas.
